Inspired by 3omahakids and their “WE LIKE TO SHOP” series, my kids wanted to start a “We Love to Eat” series.  For now, many of the establishments serve similar fare.  I am hoping once they get older they will expand their palettes!  Some of the containers have pencils, others are too small.  We hope you have fun with this series while enjoying a family night out.

You won't be able to eat here, although there is TONS of food.  My husband's employer is a big supporter of the nearby organization and we volunteer here annually during the Christmas season.  The kids (ages 8, 11, & 14) really enjoy it.  This year we asked permission to hide a cache nearby and they excitedly said YES!

Founded in 1981 and headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska, Food Bank for the Heartland is a nonprofit organization that serves more than 325 food pantries, emergency shelters, after-school programs, senior housing sites and rehabilitation centers in our area. We are the largest food bank in Nebraska and Iowa, encompassing 93 counties in the two-state region. During the 2012 fiscal year, they distributed nearly 9 million pounds of food to local nonprofit agencies that in turn delivered it directly to those in need in their neighborhoods and communities. Food Bank for the Heartland operates its own programs that serve vulnerable populations directly. They include Kids Cafe, Food for Seniors, BackPack Program, Mobile Pantry and Fresh Produce. Food and other items distributed through Food Bank for the Heartland have touched over 250,000 lives this past fiscal year. Individuals, organizations and companies can help us continue our mission of eradicating hunger in our community by donating time, money and food.
