Geocache Description:

Gile Mountain Tower Trail, 400 ft rise through forest to old fire tower. Good 40 min. hike on good trails (but icy or muddy depending on the season).

This is our first cache, and is called the Leprechaun Cache in honor of St. Patricks Day.

The trailhead is clearly marked off of Turnpike Road, 5.2 miles from the intersection with Union Village/Main Street in Norwich VT (5.8 mi from the town green).

The trail is maintained by the Nature Conservancy (passing through private land -- so you can't go off trail) up to the old fire observation tower atop Gile Mtn. The trail passes through mixed birch/maple/pine forest. The tower is renovated and open to the public -- and offers stunning view of the surrounding country.

From the trailhead to the tower the vertical rise is about 400 ft; and the distance is about 3/4 mi.

The cache includes a magnetic backgammon board, a waterproof match holder, a rubber pig, and a jacks game. Plus the usual logbook and camera.
