Geocache Description:

The reclaiming of the degraded wetlands was a joint venture between local residence and businesses.

Past owners drained the system by means of a ditch. The area was also invaded with exotic tree species, also several species of weeds were a major problem.

The first step was to control the weeds, this was done by teams of members and wellwishers taking on allocated areas, and spot-spraying with approved herbicides.

The second step was to bury the heaps of rubbish that were found along the old main road. This was done with materials removed from the N3. There was concern that nothing would grow on the poor subsoil used, but hydroseeding soon turned it into a verdant mat.

There is an effort to try and reverse the drainage of the wetlands by means of gabion weirs.
