This cache is atop a rugged and interesting volcano with fine views. Unusually the volcano has a double crater.
This cache is suitable for older children under strict supervision although walking boots or sturdily soled trainers are essential.
The walk to the volcano is the main disadvantage of this cache. a look at a map will show that the volcano is smack bang in the middle of one of Fuerteventura's malpais areas. Malpais (badlands) is an area almost totally covered in, mostly, small to medium sized rocks and walking any distance over malpais is tedious to say the least. This is the main reason for the 4.0 terrain rating. Once at the foot of the volcano things improve significantly, choose your route wisely and there is good bedrock all the way to the top. You will need a head for heights as near the top you are walking on narrow ridges with steep drops on either side.
It is recommended that you walk beyond the cache to the highest point of the volcano to fully appreciate the views.
When you leave the parking area, walk along the track to the trailhead. Then follow the wall all the way to the volcano, at the volcano follow the wall up to the ridge and walk left along the ridge to the cache and peak.
As with all walking in Fuerteventura, because of the rocky terrain, ALWAYS look where you place your feet, if you wish to admire the scenery, stop walking and plant your feet securely.
