Geocache Description:

Just a short hike on the Lake shore trail. Somewhat rolling but an easy hike. Cache is a small plastic jar with screw lid with log and a few small trade items. A presidential gold dollar is for the FTF.

This is on a hiking trail in the Elephant Butte State Park. Access is off I-25 at exit 83 to 195 and then left on rock canyon road. The trail is about 10.5 miles long and is graded and graveled and about 6 ft wide with rock borders. Only a few short areas through the arroyo's are not improved but are marked with sign posts so are easy to follow. All trail info is on signs at the trail head parking areas. This is a state park so you will need a parks pass or day pass. These can be obtained at the main park entrance or at self pay stations along the road. Trail is open to hiking, biking and wildlife viewing. No motorized vehicles allowed. Dogs are allowed but must be on leash. There are many benches, picnic shelters and bathroom facilities along the way. Permission to place this cache was by Kay Dunlap, park superintendent.
