Geocache Description:

Wells Park is one of the oldest Parks in Melbourne. It was named after W.T. Wells who donated 30 acres to the City.

The Main Entrance is just North of the Melbourne Library parking area. There is parking right in front of the signs. See Photo below

The Old Baseball field, East of the Melbourne Library. This field prior to the 1950’s was used for traveling Carnivals and Circuses that came to town. During the 1950’s it was used as a Football field for the Melbourne High School. In the 1960’s this field was used as a baseball field for Spring training for the New York Yankees. Mickey Mantel was known to have played here. See photo below

Somewhere near where the Melbourne Municipal Auditorium is, there was a big barn that housed the Basketball courts for the Melbourne High School also during the 1950’s. See photos below, Auditoreum and Site of Old Basketball Barn

The old Water Tower was in the same spot back in the 40’s. As of Sept 2012, it is scheduled for demolition. South of it on an elevated hill was a municipal swimming pool. The pool was approximately where the Liberty Bell Memorial Museum now stands. Just East of that was a Horse Race Track that went around both lakes. Hickory Street did not extend that far North then. After Horse racing died out, the track was used for Stock Car racing. There was a wooden rail around both sides of the track, and after one particular wreck when a wooden board went through the windshield of a race car, racing was abandoned. See photo Old Water Tower below

Water fountain looking Northwest. During the late 40’s and early 50’s, the boys in the Wood Shop, made small boats and installed outboard motors on them. They raced them on the two lakes. See photo below, Water Fountain

This is a Multi to take you around the Park.
Hope you enjoy the trip and the hunt as much as I enjoyed making it.
As usual in a Park, there will be Muggles.
This is a three part Multi. You are looking for Micros.
There is a $5 for FTF.
I give it a 2 ½ difficulty because it is a Multi and because of Muggles.
Please BYOP

Congratulations to Red Dragon 22 for FTF!
