I never knew about feral cats until my extended hikes took me through Trinity Park (near I-30 and University Ave.) I usually start out at Bryant Irvin road and the Trinity river, and follow the river trail all the way to Tandy Center and downtown Fort Worth, rest a while, then return. The hike is good for 14 to 20 miles depending on how much walking you do downtown.
The good news is you don't have to do 14 miles to see the cats. Just walk the Trinity Park segment, hugging the northwest boundary and you'll see a few of the cats. Dozens of them live out there. Every color, shape and size. And they're all wild.
I like to follow the train tracks (the kiddie train that boards near the zoo) to the more secluded parts of the park. Follow them far enough and you’ll pass near a duck pond with lots of geese, ducks and squirrels.
What to bring: GPS (of course), a ziplock bag with a little dry cat food, another ziplock bag containing nuts for the squirrels, and an old loaf of white bread for the ducks and geese.
This is a great adventure for the kids.
When you get to the closed gate with the "No Outlet" sign, you have arrived. The GPS coordinates are off by about 80 ft. Now look in the general vicinity for the cats (do not cross over the gate). Please post any feral cat photos along with your comments.
