Flotsametrics a word coined by a scientist who studied flotsam—floating trash—and revolutionized the study of the world’s oceans. His book is very interesting "FLOTSAMETRICS AND THE FLOATING WORLD: How One Man’s Obsession with Runaway Sneakers and Rubber Ducks Revolutionized Ocean Science by Curtis Ebbesmeyer"
The name of the cache is such to warn you of what you will find on the beaches and iron shore here. Lots of flotsam and jetsam, these words used to apply to wreckage or cargo left floating on the sea after a shipwreck and Jetsam applied to cargo or equipment thrown overboard from a ship in distress and either sunk or washed ashore. The words are now used to describe the discarded objects, refuse, debris, odds and ends that float on the oceans and wash up on our beaches.
This debris is from other countries who do not have proper ways of disposing of their garbage, it gets dumped or is washed out to sea...it is not debris from the Cayman Islands. Please do not blame the Cayman People for this mess, we all try to pick up as much as we can but it is a daily job. The garbage keeps coming everyday with every wave.
So if you have the time take out a bag of Flotsam with you, we would be so grateful.
PLEASE REPLACE SAFELY BACK IN IT'S HIDING PLACE SO A BIG STORM DOESN'T TAKE IT OUT, THANKS !
