This cache is a tribute to his highness Sultan Qaboos bin Said al Said's royal yacht.
The cache is located along one of our favorite trekking trails behind Muttrah between the souk area and Riyam park. From here you can reach the cache by foot. Remember to wear proper footwear and bring plenty of water. Note, that some sections of the trail is through a small wadi and thus you may have to cross smaller pools of water. It takes between 1-2 hours to complete the trekking trail.
The cache is a lock n' lock box and contains: log book, pen and removable items e.g. small car, panda and poker chip.
From the cache you have a remarkable view over Sultan Qaboos Port including the impressive royal yacht.
Definition: A royal yacht is defined as a ship used by a monarch or a royal family. Most of them are financed by the government of the country of which the monarch is head. A royal yacht is most often manned by personnel from the navy and used by the monarch and his/her family on both private and official travels. Depending on how the term is defined royal yachts date back to the days of antiquity with royal barges on the Nile in ancient Egypt.
The Sultan's Royal Yacht: The luxury yacht is owned by Sultan Qaaboos bin Said al Said and is named "Al Said". The yacht was developed under the code name Project Sunflower in 2007 by the naval architect, Lurssen Yachts of Germany in collaboration with the reputed yacht designer Jonathan Quinn Barret. It is built to accommodate 70 guests along with 154 qualified crew members to give them the VIP service. "Al Said" is currently the world's highest displacement super-yachet (15,850 tons), the most powerful (16,500kW) and third longest super-yacht (155m). It is built to cruise at a maximum speed of 22 nautical miles per hour. Though the full features of "Al Said" are secret, naturally there is plenty of speculation; some have claimed that the yacht contains a concert hall large enough for a 50-piece orchestra. Whether that's true or not, aerial shots taken in Gibraltar show a helipad aft on one of the uppermost decks. And in keeping with most Middle Easterners' preference for enclosed, air-conditioned spaces, there isn't much acreage devoted to alfresco areas.
