Lungo il Cammino di San Francesco una tappa alla Chiesa di San Francesco

A ricordo della visita del santo a Piediluco, la chiesa di San Francesco fu edificata tra la fine del XIII secolo e il 1338, come si legge nell'epigrafe posta sulla facciata d'ingresso.
L'edificio conserva preziosi reperti artistici del Quattrocento e del Cinquecento e sul portale bassorilievi di pesci e strumenti per la pesca che si effettuava nell'omonimo lago.
Da vedere sono il convento, fondato tra il 1235 e il 1237, e la chiesa di San Giacomo Maggiore della metà del 1400; sei cappellette, risalenti al 1650 e il Sacro Speco, il "romitorio superiore", la grotta dove Francesco pregava, ora inglobata in una chiesetta incassata sotto un blocco roccioso e nascosta dalla fitta vegetazione.

In memory of the visit of the saint to Piediluco, the church of San Francesco was built between the late thirteenth century and 1338, as stated in the epigraph placed on the entrance façade.
The building conserves precious relics of the fifteenth and sixteenth century art and bas-reliefs on the portal of fish and fishing tools which PERFORMED in the lake.
Worth seeing are the monastery, founded between 1235 and 1237, and the church of San Giacomo Maggiore in the middle of 1400, six chapels, dating back to 1650 and the Sacro Speco, the "upper hermitage", the cave where San Francesco prayed, now embedded in a chapel recessed below a rocky outcrop and hidden by thick vegetation.
