An easy Cache when visiting Knaben.
I gruvene på Knaben ble det utvunnet Molybden, men gruven ble nedlagt i 1973. Siste arbeidsdag var 30. april 1973. Gruvene har hatt sin storhetstid når det har vært ufred i verden, siden molybdenen benyttes når man lager våpen. På grunn av dette har Knaben en veldig spesiell historie. I dag er det Leirskole og Landhandel som er igjen. De gamle boligene til gruvearbeiderene er overtatt av turister, og plassen har blitt så populær at det bygges stadig nye hytter.
Selve gruvebyen ligger på 630m o.h. og de høysete fjelltoppene er nesten 1000m o.h
When the Knaben 2 mine, the largest Molybdenite mine in Europe, was shut down in 1973, Knaben was almost completely abandoned with only a few people remaining to secure the mine and sell off the assets. The mine buildings and the miners’ accommodation were more or less unused. However, the local shop remained open and the Vest–Agder County authorities chose to use the recently extended school buildings as an outward bound camp for visiting groups of pupils. As a result the community did not die out completely, and during the last 20 years, Knaben has grown to be a popular all year round vacation and leisure area.
