I came across this old bridge while out caching, and I just had to bring people here to see it.
This bridge is driven over daily by the locals.
I stopped some of those people and inquired about it, and they informed me that it has been here since BEFORE 1900.
Apparantly (according to my "informants") a doctor had the bridge built- privately- for access to his home. This doctor "had money", and had a huge house, that eventually burned down. My "informant" also said that he remembers the bridge having knee-wall-type sides when he was young, and that he had seen pictures of the bridge with half-walls and a top over it. At one time, a Watertown Fire Department tanker drove across it with no trouble... but the bridge bowed quite a bit, and the driver refused to drive back across it- choosing instead to go the long way around. He also stated that a Lo-Jack maintenance truck drove over it once, and ALMOST made it... the truck broke through in one spot before making it all the way across.
I hope that you enjoy this spot as much as I did.
Congrats to "themulls" on getting the FTF. And the runner-up prize goes to "Daydreamermom"- she almost made it there first!
