The cache is located at the top of Kibbutz Shamir in the Pillbox that served as Israel's easternmost post against Syria in the War of Independence. From this site one can see the slopes of the Golan Heights, the Hermon mountain and the Hula Valley in a breathtaking panoramic view.
This cache is located at the top of the hill on Kibbutz Shamir's eastern side. The site is called Pillbox Aleph, and was built by Solel Boneh (an Israeli construction company) in 1948. It served as the easternmost post against Syria in the War of Independence. When looking eastward from the pillbox, one can see the slopes of the Golan Heights and the former border between Israel and Syria. In the late fall, winter and spring the slopes are a beautiful green and in the summer they are a tanned brown. When looking westward, one can see the whole kibbutz below them and a panoramic view of the Hula valley. This westward view is breathtaking both during the day and at night, when the lights of all the settlements of the Hula valley can be seen illuminating the darkened vista. Also, to the north one can see the Hermon mountain which, in the winter, is capped in snow.
To get to the cache, you should enter Kibbutz Shamir (some sweet-talking of the gate keeper may be required) and go straight through the roundabout and then take your second right. Keep straight, going past the Kibbutz Shamir Garage (מוסך קיבוץ שמיר), until you hit the fence. Take a left along the fence and keep straight until you reach the peak of the hill whereupon you should see the pillbox to your left.
