Village gallo-romain à l'origine, Saint-Rambert-sur-Loire, alors nommé Occiacum, fut donné à l'abbaye de l'Île-Barbe, dont les moines fondèrent un prieuré et rebaptisèrent le lieu en Saint-André-des-Olmes. En 1078, lorsque les reliques de Ragnebert gardées à Saint-Rambert-sur-Loire furent apportées, le village prit son nom définitif, et fut alors un lieu important de pèlerinage.
L'église de Saint-Rambert du XIe siècle et XIIe siècle a été classée monument historique le 2 juillet 1891. Elle a connu de nombreuses modifications au cours des siècles, et le Prieuré qui la prolonge sur le côté, forment un ensemble qui était à l'origine un monastère fondé à Occiacum par douze moines venus de l'Ile-Barbe, près de Lyon, entre 603 et 608.
Le Musée des Civilisations est situé au pied de l'église romane dans l'ancien prieuré. Il explore les richesses des civilisations du monde (Afrique, Asie et Océanie, Arts et traditions Populaires français) à travers les arts et les croyances. L'ancien bâtiment d'école attenant au prieuré, est occupé sur 3 niveaux par une exposition d'ethnographie régionale présentant des objets d'Arts et Traditions Populaires : "Mémoire de village".
Pour y accéder vous devrez sillonner au hasard des petites rues du vieux Saint-Rambert et ses maisons à colombage, traverser la porte franchise pour aboutir à l’église romane et au prieuré du XVIIIe siècle qui accueille aujourd’hui ce musée des cultures du monde.

Gallo-Roman village originally, Saint-Rambert-sur-Loire, then named Occiacum, was given to the abbey of the Island-beard near Lyon. The monks established there a priory and renamed the place in Saint-André-des-Olmes. In 1078, when the relics of Ragnebert kept for Saint-Rambert-sur-Loire were brought, the village took its definitive name, and was then an important place of pilgrimage.
The church of Saint-Rambert of the XIth century and XIIth century was classified as "Historic Monument" on July 2nd 1891.
The Museum of Civilizations is situated at the foot of this Romanic church of Saint-Rambert, in the former priory. It investigates the wealth of the civilizations of the world (Africa, Asia and Oceania, French Popular Arts and traditions) through the arts and the faiths.
The former building of school, adjacent to the priory, is occupied on 3 levels by an exhibition of regional ethnography presenting works of art and Popular Traditions: «memory of village”.
To reach it you will have to cross through the side streets of the old Saint-Rambert and his half-timbered houses, to cross to the Romanic church from XI century and to the priory of the XVIII century which welcomes this museum of the cultures of the world today.
