Geocache Description:

This is a series of caches representing predicted dates for apocalyptic events such as the Rapture, Las Judgment, or any other event that would result in the end of humanity, civilization, the planet, or the entire universe. The Caches represent the dates of predictions from notable groups or individuals of when the world was, or is, forecasted to end.

Well the months of August, September and October 2011 came and went and the world continued.
What was suppose to happen in 2011, and why was is it over a three month period.
Well the answer was numerious predictions of the end of the world all due to the
Comet C/2010 X1 (Elenin) discovered by Russian amteur astronomer Leonid Elenin on December 10, 2010.
After the discovery of the Coment there were fears amongst the public that Coment Elenin travelling almost directly between Earth and the Sun would cause disturbances to the Earth's crust, causing massive earthquakes and tidal waves. Others predicted that Elenin would collide with Earth on October 16, 2011. Scientists tried to calm fears by stating that none of these events were possible.
So what happened, why didn't Comet Elenin distroy the Earth.  Well on August 19, 2011 comet Elenin was hit by a Cornal Mass Ejection (Yep, the sun took it out) and the comet started disintegrating, as did another comet  C/1999 S4.  By mid-October 2011 there no confirmed ground based sighting of Comet Elenin, it had turned to dust, and dust was not going to take us out.  The dust cloud remnants of Comet Elenin started to become visible to ground-based telescopes around October 21, 2011, five days after predictions said it would slam into us and end it all.  How close did we come, well the remnant of Elenin made its closest approach to the Earth on October 16, 2011 (yes the same day it was to hit us), at a distance (get ready) 21,730,000 miles or slightly closer than the planet Venus.
Oh and about the cache.  This is a regular cache placed near a trail starting near the entrance to the BLM North Hills area. (along the same trail as Marina's Book Cache).  The trail is used year round so you can usually follow it in the snow as well.
