"Middle-earth is ... an old word for the inhabited world of Men, the oikoumene: middle because thought of vaguely as set amidst the encircling Seas and (in the northern-imagination) between ice of the North and the fire of the South. O. English middan-geard, mediaeval E. midden-erd, middle-erd.
The first published appearance of the word "Middle-earth" in Tolkien's works is in the Prologue to that work: "...Hobbits had, in fact, lived quietly in Middle-earth for many long years before other folk even became aware of them."

Hiking on a favorite trail we came upon a new trail recently marked with white trail markers. It looks like it may be a hashers run trail. Anyway we decided to take this for a new adventure and it was really worth it. Beautiful scenic trail, and a couple locations fit with my new caching theme. This cache is really in the middle. You will be surprised when you get to GZ and look around. You are in the middle of a beautiful scenic location. This location is also in the middle between two power lines that lead to different historical places.
