Geocache Description:

Doda Well at the west end of the small but very picturesque village of Coffinswell where it nestles by the roadside. It could be an early medieval holy well or Sacred Spring. The name is Anglo-Saxon in origin: a personal name.

In 'Secrets of the Hidden Source - In search of Devon's Ancient and Holy Wells', Terry Faull says this:
"An attractive little village where the tiny brick well-house is tucked in by the roadside in front of a thatched cottage called Old Well Cottage."

"The well-house is of 19th-20th century origins and it seems likely that the original spring (welle in Domesday Book) is somewhere in the adjacent garden. There is a legend that a young woman was refused burial in the churchyard of St Bartholomew and that each New Year after the stroke of midnight, she takes a 'cock's stride' towards the churchyard which is a little way up the hill. The church here is kept locked.
