Geocache Description:

Almost a park in grab just off of what is now a supermarket / shopping center parking lot. To locals, however the area has "MEMORIES."

This cache is hidden in a cool little section of woods that is very close to what was once a local landmark. The wooded area is surprisingly hilly but slightly littered with what seems to be very old illegally dumped items ranging from an old stove to a few fifty gallon drums. Anyone who grew up in this area (and is as old as M.T. Pool) is very familiar with the history of this particular piece of land. Here once stood the old E.M. LOWE'S KINGSTON DRIVE-IN THEATER. I was born in 1960 and have lived in Plymouth all my life. My earliest memory of the drive-in was driving by it, my parents in the front seat myself and two siblings stuffed in the back seat and getting a brief glimpse of whatever movie was playing as we drove buy. Yes, the drive-in was certainly a local landmark always seeming to need a bit of t.l.c. in the form of a coat of paint or any kind of maintenance for that matter. As I grew up the drive in was kind of a right of passage and popular gathering spot for friends on summer nights. It had all the usual attributes of a drive-in including the beat up snack bar that served over priced barely edible food, a little play area for kids and the infamous "back row." The drive-in closed sometime in the 80s and sat neglected for many years. During this time it was used for occasional flea markets and as a drive-in church. As with most drive-ins, property value vs profit made it tough to make ends meet and the property was sold and developed into the shopping center that now sits there. A bit of trivia that lots don't know is that before the drive-in was built this was the site of the former Kingston town dump. There is actually a whale carcass buried there that washed up in a local beach before the days of scientific studies and necropsies. When the developer bought the land he had to bring tons of fill in and and spend lots of time tamping down the ground with a huge pile driver type piece of equipment. If you have stories or memories about the Kingston Drive-In I'd love to read them in the logs. F.T.F. prize included. Log is made of M.T's trademark waterproof vinyl so bring your own pen or sharpie as pencil or gel tip wont write on it.
Congratulations on the second F.T.F. in a row on a M.T. Pool hide goes to NoahDadandClara. Glad they claimed the $10.00 Gift card at Gunther Tooties, 22 Court St. Plymouth THANKS TO MACFRIENDS FOR A LITTLE HELP WITH CACHE MAINTENANCE IN FREEING UP THE OVER TIGHTENED CAP. I payed a visit to the cache myself after their visit and added a bit more lube to the threads. It is spinning freely now please.... finger tight is all that is needed when re-hiding. Just in case there is now a pair of channel lock pliers in a ziploc baggie hidden under the cache container for use should it inadvertently get over tightened again.
