Westwardho!: Checked on a bike ride tonight and it's gone again. So, sorry to say its archive time as there are too many other things going on at the moment and caching has slipped down the list.

Geocache Description:

St Mary's Well.
This well once supplied sustenance and healing properties to travellers on the main Exeter to Dartmouth road.

It now has a metal grill and railing around it after being refurbished when St Mary's church was converted into flats in 1993.
The church had been active since the 14th century and was at one time the principal place of worship.
In the mid 19th century the General Board of Health wrote a report on the alarming death rate of some parts of Newton Abbot which was in excess of 25 per cent due to damp housing conditions and poor water supply. The well, which was still being used at that time became redundant when it was recommended that a constant water supply was fitted in every street.

The cache...Parking is always difficult in Newton Abbot but the nearby superstore has two large car parks (payable at peak times, free later).
