Geocache Description:

Geochicks 2013 Smarter Than the Average Chick

Another year older and another year wiser, right? Our ninth Geochicks brings us together in Midland at the NorthwoodUniversity’s NADA Hotel. It’s a quiet setting on a wooded campus west of town.

Join us for the weekend of caching, shopping, and Geochick connecting. Festivities begin April 12th with informal gathering and dinner and chatter and play. The main event starts on Saturday the 13th with scheduled games, dinner, and evening activities. Then fond farewells and until-next-years happen at Sunday’s checkout.

Can’t make it for the whole weekend? Not a problem! Come for just a night or a day trip. Never Geochicked before? No worries – we love meeting new Geochicks! Don’t be shy – come and enjoy yourself with us!

What you need to know:

Goodie bags: Every year ladies bring a bag (think reusable grocery bags or larger for size) and an item to gift to everyone that goes in the bag. It can be small and non-caching related. Bags will be put out after morning gathering and filled in the afternoon. Examples of goodie bag items are pathtags, candles, homemade jewelry, sweets, encouraging notes, but really, your imagination is your limit. This is really just for fun. Don’t stress about it. Plan on about 40 items, or check the “will attend” number on the cache page.

Snacks: Snacks this year will more casual than in years past. Think more along the lines of chips or veggies and dip, cookies, or finger foods instead of crockpot or soupygoopy per request of the hotel and their policies. Our rooms have refrigerators this year! If your snack-to-share needs to be cool, you can keep it in your room until needed.

Alcohol policy: You can bring your own alcohol to enjoy in your room. Only alcohol purchased through the hotel may be enjoyed in the common area and conference room. Pretty much like last year if you were there.

Prize table & Raffle tabl e: We will have a prize table set up to put your donated items on to be won by every attendee. Tickets for the prize table will be given out at the beginning of the evening event.

There will be a raffle table to display items donated to help support expenses of Geochicks 2013 with tickets going on sale Saturday. Last year we saw quite a few creative items like a hand-carved walking stick, a geocaching package, Geochick cookies, paint, event hat & T-shirt package and other great donations. If there is a larger item that someone would like to donate to raffle off, please contact Cindy (Land Surveying Mom) or Michelle (Msmerrysunshine).

Pathtag Bingo: Back by popular demand is pathtag bingo. It’s a regular bingo game but to enter, you have to donate a pathtag for every card you will use during the game. The winner of the game wins all the pathtags or shares if there are multiple winners. If you don’t have pathtags, there is usually someone with an extra they may sell you.

Book, DVD, CD exchange: There will be a table set up where you can place your items for trade. Anything left over will be donated.

Special Note about breakfast and dinner: Since we found that many of us don’t eat a big breakfast, we are only doing a morning gathering to explain the game and outline evening activities; breakfast will not be offered. We hear there are a few really good breakfast restaurants and coffee shops in Midland for those of us that enjoy a good cup of joe or an egg or two.

Our dinner plans are to have pizza and salad as usual, price yet to be determined, but think around $5-$7 per person. If you have special food needs or know you will not be eating pizza and salad, please let us know. We have to place a food order by April 2nd. The hotel may be able to prepare something else for you to eat since they cater, but you would have to set that up through them.

How: With much flair, style, gusto, heart, enthusiasm, skill, fun-filled hearts, glee, joyousness, adventure, curiosity, and above all, with geochickishness!
