Ali Mountain (2216m high) is world famous for its awesome mountain view sunrise. This scenery should be listed as a "must to see" during your trip in Taiwan. This cache is located at Ogasawara Mountain Sun-rising Watchtower(小笠原山觀日眺望台), the best place to see and photo shoot the sunrise. It will take you an extra ten minutes walk from the Zhushan station.
Located in the northeast part of the Jiayi County in Taiwan, Ali Mountain is world famous for its 'five rare sites' including the Sunrise, the Ali Mountain Forest Railway, the famous Alishan Sacred Tree, the Grand Sea of Clouds, and the Flamboyant Cherry Blossom. It is said that one who has not been there will never know its wonderful beauty.
The sunrise is a must for everyone who comes here. Many have said "to miss viewing the sunrise on Ali Mountain is like returning empty after entering the Golconda." The best place to view the sunrise is on the top of Zhu Hill. The place and time of the sunrise are different due to the changes of the four seasons. If you plan to view the sunrise it is best to ask the local people the time of sunrise, so you don't miss this magnificent opportunity. When the sun is rising slowly from the peak, it sends out the golden rays for a short time which provides a spectacular scene.
You have two options to reach to the GZ. One is to walk through the well developed trail up to the top. It takes about an hour to walk from the village. The other option is to take a ride on the famous Ali Mountain Forest Railway. You can order one way or round-trip ticket at the Ali Station. I personally suggest to buy one way ticket (From the Ali station (village) to Zhushan) and walk back through the trail after the sunrise sightseeing and geocache hunting. Otherwise you may not have enough time to find the cache and catch the last train going back.
The cache is a round bottle. You need to press-hold-and turn it to open. There is a pencil and logbook inside. Please put it back and fixed it well as the wind on the hill top is strong..
