Geocache Description:

Element #3 is Lithium.

Lithium is a reactive alkali metal element.  It is the lightest (least dense) solid element, capable of floating in water, if it didn’t react violently with it first.  Lithium was first classified as an element by the Swedish chemist Johan August Arfwedson in 1817 who isolated it from the mineral petalite.  Its name comes from the Greek Lithos, meaning stone.

Lithium has a number of uses in medicine (lithium compounds are used to treat bipolar disorder), optics, lubrication, and what may be its most well-known use, batteries.

Lithium-ion batteries are used as rechargeable batteries for many electronic devices as well as electric automobiles.  Because of the light weight of the lithium as well as the high voltage produced by the electrochemical reaction in the cell (3.7V), lithium-ion cells have one of the highest energy densities of all rechargeable batteries, making it ideal for electric cars. Batteries now account for over a quarter of the global usage of lithium.

The cache is located along the sidewalk on a busy street.  There is no parking on the side of the street where the cache is located, so be careful crossing!

The cache is a container a bit bigger than a film container hidden in a typical manner.  Please replace the cache so it blends in with the natural vegetation.
