Our First! Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Electric Mouse: Hi. I am a volunteer reviewer for geocaching.com. This cache was reported to me as being within 150 feet of a railroad track and I note that the cache page and a number of logs state that reaching the cache involves entering the right of way. At some point after this cache was initially listed, geocaching.com stopped listing caches within 150 feet of railroad tracks because it is a federal offense to place an item within the railroad right of way. I realize that this cache has been in place for a long time and has been rather popular, but I don't see how I can grandfather a cache and make an exception to the railroad guideline when it involves a potential legal issue. Because the cache is within the railroad right of way, I see no choice but to archive the page and request the owner to arrange to remove or move the cache as soon as possible.

I note that there is a game production area nearby, so if the cache can be moved so that it is further than 150 feet from the tracks and does not require entering the right of way to reach it, I can unarchive the page once it is relocated. If you are able to move it, email me once it is moved so that I can relook at it. Also please feel free to contact me if there are any questions.

Thanks,

Electric Mouse

How Geocaching Works

Geocache Description:

Not a very hard cache to find, and easy for the kids. Terrain in railroad track right-of-way. Has some grass that may become waist high and area may become wet. Beware of barbed wire fence that may be near the cache location. Not meant as a hazard to cachers.

The cache should be pretty easy to find since there is not a lot of cover in the area. Large camo painted container with blue twist on lid replaces the former Tupperware container. Several sticks have been placed on top to hide it from those not looking for it. There is a game production area across the road and people do hunt here during hunting season. Flashlite, Snipe, and Scooter adopted this cache on August 19, 2005. Contents were taken home and dried out. Some ruined trade items were tossed out but we added our signature flashlite for the next cacher to find. Also a screw driver, giraffe stickers, yo-yo, and sea turtle that Scooter picked up along the way. Original log book has been retired but is in the container along with new log book.
