A camouflaged micro-cache hidden near to the Gate over the road from Riyaam to Muscat.
Only 50 years ago, the Sultanate of Oman had only one asphalted road, from Muttrah to Muscat. Parts of that first road ever built in Oman still exist today and provide a scenic route into the Capital.
A series of 8 caches have been hidden starting at Riyam Park and ending at the Bait Al Zubair museum in Muscat along a distance of 1.8 km. You can drive the entire road and access each cache by car, but why not leave your car behind at the Riyam Park parking area, or get there by taxi, and walk the trail of caches until you reach the Bait Al Zubair museum in Muscat? Reward yourself with a refreshment at the museum and let one of many taxis passing by return you to your starting point.
The cache is next to the Muscat gate, the place where the original gate to Muscat city was located and which, until 1970, was closed every day from dusk to dawn. It now contains the Muscat Gate museum and is surrounded by beautifully landscaped walkways and garden. The museum is open Saturdays to Thursday from 09:30 - 11:00 am and 4:30 to 7:00 pm. The cache consists of a camouflaged box. It contains just a logbook and pencil although a small GC will fit in. Please replace the box exactly as you have found it.
This cache is only a short walk downhill from the previous cache in the series: Riyam to Muscat: 6. The Watchtower, GC44J4H and leads on to the final cache nearby: Riyam to Muscat: 8. The Museum, GC44J4N
Good luck with finding this cache and mind the traffic!
