Geocache Description:

Small plastic camo-taped container in the Dunkerton Nature Trail area.

Many years ago my husband and I decided to raise emus. The emu is a 5-foot tall, prehistoric looking bird that comes from Australia and is raised for their lean, dark meat and healing emu oil. It was a great learning experience but.... not very profitable.

Even with a 6-foot tall horse fence, on more than one occasion we had an emu escape and had to spend hours chasing a bird that's able to run 40 mph. Not fun. I can't guarantee that every bird we ever had escape was eventually captured.

As I was walking the trail to place this cache I kept following these large bird tracks that look very much like emu tracks. Granted, they could also be crane tracks, since a certain body of water named Crane Creek runs near the area, but my imagination was running wild. I kept peering through the trees, half expecting to see the shaggy, gray and black back and long black neck of a former resident.

So, if you come nose to beak with a 5-foot tall bird with big brown eyes and curly eyelashes while seeking this cache, don't be surprised.
