Geocache Description:

VEST: Visit the Eagle Spur Trail

This series of caches is hidden on the Eagle Spur Rail Trail which passes through lands which are reportedly the largest summertime roost of bald eagles in the Eastern United States. If you’re lucky and observant, you may even see an Eagle – especially as you near Jordan Lake.

This series is inspired by the larger BATT (Bike the ATT) series located a few miles to the east along the American Tobacco Trail. However the Eagle Spur Trail is much more rugged than the nearby American Tobacco Trail. While it is mostly level, this trail does have unexpected and hard-to-see holes in areas above culverts which are in disrepair. Some culverts have washed out completely. In spring and early fall mosquitoes may be a problem. In the spring, ticks and chiggers will be prevalent. Also, the Eagle Spur Trail is completely on NC Wildlife Resources Commission gamelands. Thus, you may see hunters with loaded weapons on the trail during hunting season. Most of the caches in this series are small caches but should not be too difficult to find. Some might be in slightly challenging locations, especially if it’s rained recently.

The most important thing to keep in mind when searching for these is that you’re walking through gamelands. If you search during hunting season, please search on Sunday or wear a blaze orange VEST and don’t be afraid to make obviously human noises.
