Geocache Description:

Mexican Red Knee (aka Mexican Fireleg) (Brachypelma smithi)

I'm a Mexican Red Knee, a burrowing species found in the Pacific Coast regions of Central Mexico. We are one of the most popular species amongst collectors due to our calm demeanour and vibrant colours. We reach an adult leg span of over 5 inches, and females have been documented with captive life spans exceeding 25 years!

In addition to our fangs, we have an interesting defence system. When threatened, we will use our back legs to kick a cloud of urticating hairs from our abdomen. These hairs irritate the skin and deter potential predators, and can also cause blindness if they enter the eyes.

The gentle one.

Since 1985, our species has been protected by international law banning capture and export from our native habitat. We are readily available in the pet trade due to captive breeding programs.

Update 12/30/12

The cache was very exposed at the old location due to tree clearing. Moved to this new hiding spot. All former loggers (not the tree cutting kind : ) are welcome to find and log again at this new location.

Remember to take note of the clue in the log for the final cache.

Recommendation: Save this cache for last, before hunting the final.

The final cache in this series is located at:
I Tarantula Final - Goliath Birdeater
