Geocache Description:

The cache is not at the posted coordinates.  You must follow the instructions carefully in order to get the coordinates for the cache.  Drive by – don’t stop.  A partner in the passenger seat will be a great help, but is not necessary. You can also complete this cache fairly easily on a bike or by walking (although it will be a LONG walk!).

This cache is designed for driving past an interesting location to gather information – do not stop – just drive by, get the information, and move on.  You will need to know what the question is before you start, so that you can answer it without stopping.

This can also be a lesson in using waypoints, as I have provided several that will help you complete this task with ease.  I am giving very specific instructions on where to start (trailhead waypoint), where to slow down (reference waypoint), where to look (information to gather waypoint), and then where to pull over and complete your calculations (reference waypoint).  If you do all of this, you will find the cache in short order.

START:  N 43° 06.544 W 077° 50.313

Start out on Bromley Road going eastbound.  If you are going westbound, the instructions won’t make sense, and you will need to do a U-turn (not suggested on this narrow road) to complete the calculations.

SLOW:  N 43° 06.523 W 077° 49.452

Slow down, and check your speed; the information you need is about 500 feet ahead.  I suggest a speed of about 20 mph if you are driving.  Anything less than 15 mph will look suspicious, and anything greater than 25 mph may cause you to miss the detail you need.

LOOK:  N 43° 06.523 W 077° 49.323

Turn your head to the right and look at what kind of “graveyard” this is.  DO NOT STOP.  In order to help you if there is deep snow in the winter or high weeds in the summer, there is one of these items coming out of the front of the barn.  DO NOT STOP.  Continue on down Bromley Road and TURN RIGHT onto Attridge Road (heading approximately southwest).  Did I mention that there is no need to stop?

One single question, just multiple ways of asking it:  What kind of “graveyard” is this?  What are the former “living” items that are now obviously “dead”?  What 10-letter, 3-syllable, word best describes the multiple objects in the “graveyard” and the single yellow object poking out of the barn (use the singular form of the word, we don’t need the “s” on the end).  Write the word here:

___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___  ___

STOP: N 43° 06.436 W 077° 49.289

Pull over here to do your calculations.  (Hint – keep your vehicle pointed southwest).

The final cache is located at:

N 43° 0R.STU W 077° VW.XYZ

Where  (for the purpose of the calculations, use A=1, B=2, C=3, D=4, etc. as the “numerical value” of a letter):

R = the numerical value of the last letter of the word
ST = the sum of the numerical values of the first 5 letters minus 4
U = the numerical value of the 8th letter
VW = add the numerical values of the first 3 letters and then add 2
XY = the numerical value of the 4th letter plus 4
Z = two times the numerical value of the 7th letter

There is parking for 2 or 3 vehicles very close to the cache.
