Named in honor of my wife after i took her out on "a nice drive to Paper Cabin Ridge". We both hadn't been here before, and I must say when I have it in my mind to get somewhere, I WILL get there. Her outlook on these endevours is not as, shall we say, inspired. Throwing caution to the wind is not her forte. A fear of steep areas, tight roads, deep ruts and loose rocks dont fit into her definition of " a nice drive".
So once we reached this spot, her grip on the chicken bar slightly subsided, her arms came away from shielding her eyes, her screaming "let me out of the truck!" reduced to a mere whimper, I think I may have heard a sigh of relief. Dare I say, maybe even a glimpse of comfort in the fact that I indeed had NOT sent us careening into some unknown abyss to await our imminent demise. No matter what fate she had constructed just minutes earlier, I stated that yes, we would live to see another sunrise, play with our kids, laugh and joke about how a panic attack can make the smallest of obstacles into mountainous hurdles. I could see my beautiful bride start to return to normal as I pointed out that Apple Colony Road was "just right over there. See the houses?" Yes, the color was returning to her face now, tears were drying up. She was becoming herself again.We got out of the truck,I gave her a big reassuring hug and kiss. She found the cache,took a few snapshots and all was right again in the world.
Trying to keep the chuckle and grin hidden, I then said it:
"Well.... Now I guess we gotta go back the way we came in.."
