Geocache Description:

WELCOME TO THE ESTRELLA MOUNTAIN REGIONAL PARK!

All of the caches in this series are placed with the permission of the park supervisor. Please do not remove any of the caches. If they must be replaced or repaired, please contact the cache owner.

The Estrella Mountain Regional Park is a gem in the Southwest Valley desert. The park is made up of over 19,800 acres of desert and mountain terrain and was the first regional park in the Maricopa County Park System in 1954. The park is bordered by the Gila River to the north, the Gila River Indian Community to the east and the Sierra Estrella Mountain Range to the south and east, which makes up a large part of the park itself. The park has ten improved trails, rating from easy rated half-mile Gila Trail to the moderately difficult Pedersen Trail, 6.8 miles in length.

Entry to the park requires either an Annual Pass, available at the park or online at http://www.maricopacountyparks.org/ Or, users can purchase a day pass for $6.00 at the park. More information can be found online at http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/estrella/

Geocachers are encouraged to support their local parks. If we don't take care of them, we may lose them!

This geocache series consists of a total of 15 caches of varied sizes, types and containers placed around the Baseline Loop trail, a 2.6 mile hike of moderate difficulty rating. Should you find all of the caches placed in this series, you will have found a multi-cache, a mystery cache, a letterbox hybrid, an Earthcache and eleven traditional caches of varying size.

My family was able to hike this entire loop, including stopping at each cache location to simulate a find, in under three hours. This hike was with two young children and adequate stops to explore the small caverns and natural wonders this trail has to offer. Experienced cachers can hike through this entire series in well under two hours with ease.

A detailed map of the Baseline Trail is available here: http://www.maricopa.gov/parks/estrella/pdf/2012/estrella-8x11-baseline- closeup.pdf

I hope you enjoy this series as much as we enjoyed placing them! Happy caching!
