Geocache Description:

You are looking for a film canister hidden just away from the summit of Moel Faban containing a log and pencil.
This spot has a wonderful view over the villages of Rachub and LLanllechid though a sheep could shelter nicely from a storm too.

You are standing near the summit of Moel Faban or Baby Hill – yes when compared to its neighbours but definitely not when looking at the view. The top of the hill is littered with cairns, rock circles and round houses – take your pick.
This is the third in our series of Village Views. On a clear day the views from here are unsurpassed and if you are lucky enough to catch a sunset you might just see the tops of the Wicklow Mountains to the West. This is the perfect spot for a bit of star gazing on a cold clear night.
The name Rachub is thought to have come from Yr Achub, which would roughly translates as The Saving or Safe place. The origin of this is the belief that when enemy forces were in the area the locals would flee to Rachub for safety (though the village itself did not exist then), although the story is a myth, an achub in fact being an area of land in Old Welsh. When asked ‘where do you live’ we give varying answers: Rachub, Llanllechid or Bethesda; though on older maps and deeds, the top of the village was called Cae Llwyn Grydd
Moel Faban can be accessed from a number of road-heads – see OS maps. There is no parking at the top of the road in Rachub so please find space down at the bottom of the village. It is a bit of a hike and you are definitely ‘in the Hills’ at the top. There are a variety of paths up to Moel Faban (which is incorrectly marked on Geocaching.com maps as further north) happy hunting!
From here, if appropriately kitted out, you can continue NE to Aber Falls or SE to the Magestic Carneddau.
Thanks to the National Trust Carneddau Estate Lead Ranger for permission to place this cache.
