Geocache Description:

Ever want to claim an FTF (First to Find) on a cache but the local FTF hounds always seem to beat you to the punch? You would see a new cache published and go chasing after it in anticipation of placing your name on a new, unblemished log just to arrive to see someone elses name written on it. You see the same names of the FTF hounds on all the new caches within your area and wonder how they can get to the new cache so quickly. You finally get disparaged enough and give up on getting JUST 1 FTF in your geocaching life time. Well, this cache will finally fix all that. During Thansgiving 2012, I went to Indianapolis, IN, to visit my brother and his family. On the way home, I noticed a particular cache with similar intentions on the west side of town pertaining to FTFs. After reading the page write-up and finding the cache, I thought that this was a good idea. The cache was an FTF FOREVER type of cache. After contacting the cache owner to "borrow" his idea and getting his blessing, I decided to do the same thing here in central Kansas. A cache where ANYBODY/EVERYBODY that visits that cache can claim the FTF no matter how many times it was found; just like the USPS (United States Postal Service) issuing those FOREVER stamps - no matter what the price of postage stamps are the forever stamps keep on giving - this cache is just like that. So, if you are on your own and find this cache, you can CLAIM FTF honors even if it has been found numerous times before your visit. If you travel in a pack with other cachers, EVERYONE within that pack can claim FTF honors!!!! Please log the FTF in your log just to be "official"!! I, myself, have roughly 10 FTFs as of this writing: 6 each intentional finds where I had to hike or drive quite a distance to get to, and 4 each purely accidental (found the cache while out placing my own and found an unpublished cache where I wanted to place one of my own). At least I have a few to brag about. I am not an FTF hound; I'm more of a "lonely cache" hound, meaning I enjoy those caches that are placed WAAAYYYY out in the boon-docks where you have to do some significant hiking to get to or those caches that have not been found in a very LOOOONNNGGG time. Those types of caches are more interesting to me than the FTF. Cache is placed in a nice little scenic area on the way to Milford Lake along side KS Hwy 57. The cache overlooks a wetlands that is in an oxbow with all kinds of evidence of beaver activity. There is safe parking on east side of highway directly across from cache coordinates. Coordinates for parking are as follows: N39* 04.159 W096* 52.755 Be forewarned: area may cause GPS to bounce around here, so plan accordingly. Should be a straight walk from parking area, across the highway (be careful) and to GZ area, the rest is up to you. Search for a.......... I wonder what it could be??? (AMMO CAN 7.62mm style). IF you cannot find this thing, then you probably should not be playing this silly game!! Should be a relatively quick find with a little search - unless you are easily distracted by fossils like I am, then may take a little longer than planned. Should not have to say this, but replace that RUSTY looking rock back on top of the container that is under that RUSTY looking spot on the boulder. That is to keep container out of the elements; keep critters from chewing on container; and to help justify difficulty rating. UPDATE: April 03, 2013 - visited site and after 2 hours of searching in 2 days, replaced container. After letting my GPS rest undisturbed for about 20 minutes and with constant bouncing, decided to keep same coordinates. Tried to be as accurate as possible. However, due to bouncing satellite signals, you may actually find this cache roughly 2 meters of GZ. UPDATE: April 06, 2013 - Found the original container and leaving that one in place. Retrieved replacement container. As you are walking towards GZ, cache is placed roughly 8'-10' west of grass line. There should be a rather LARGE boulder directly in front of you with a MEDIUM boulder to its immediate left. Just to the left of that MEDIUM boulder should be a FLAT & NARROW rock roughly 4' in length by about 2 ' in width with lots of fossils on it. Cache is placed somewhere between the LARGE & MEDIUM boulders. UPDATE: October 24, 2016 - Received report that original container was in terrible shape. Went to retrieve destroyed container and could not find anything. Placed a more durable container at location. IF you find anything other than the new durable container that is NOT what you are looking for. UPDATE: March 1, 2017 - Paid maintenance check here for people say that log is wet. Searched and only thing I find is the new AMMO CAN that I placed. IF future visitors find another container (4"Lx3"Wx2"H approx.), PLEASE put it by the ammo can so that I can retrieve it and get it out of the way. UPDATE: April 13, 2017 - Someone found original container and placed by replacement container. Picked up the remnants of original container. Only thing GZ should be the AMMO CAN. UPDATE: September 05, 2019 - NO more ammo can. Something about size of jelly donut and under some rust colored rocks.
