This is a medium sized cache on Howell Island. Yes, an Island. There is only one way on or off this thing. It is a concrete structure that is prone to frequent flooding. DO NOT CROSS IF IT IS FLOODED.
Howell Island was origionally used for logging and then purchased in 1978 by the Department of Conservation for public use. The island is 2,547 acres 2/3 of which are dense woodlands. To the north is the Missouri River and the south is cut off fom the mainland by the Centaur Chute. This area is full of Deer, turkey, squirrels, and many other species of wildlife. There have even been reports of BIGFOOT sightings!
There is a parking area available off the highway and is marked by a sign.
A SPECIAL NOTE! This place is notorious for getting people lost. My advise is to mark waypoints and mark often.
Please obey all area regulations and be aware that there is hunting here from Sep 15th until Jan 15th. I dont think it will be an issue but I would recommend wearing some sort of blaze orange. BE SAFE AND HAVE FUN! GOOD LUCK!
A special thanks to John Vogel for giving us permission for these caches!
