Celebrate Spring with a morning cleanup and trail maintenance at the Pacolet River Heritage Preserve. Located near the confluence of the Pacolet River and the Lawson's Fork, the 258 acre preserve protects two prehistoric soapstone outcrops that date back 3-5,000 years ago and provides habitat for uncommon plant species. Protected in 1993 by the Heritage Trust program and managed by several groups, including the Spartanburg Area Conservancy, the preserve is a great place to spend an afternoon hiking and enjoying nature. Since this is SCDNR-owned property, physical geocaches are no longer allowed, but don't let that keep you away from a great outdoor experience.

We’ll pick up trash along the trails, doing minor trail maintenance as we are working our way down to the Pacolet River and culminate it with a visit to the Earthcache at the two ancient soap stone quarries near the riverbank. Along the way, we will have members of the Spartanburg Area Conservancy present to educate us on many historical and ecological aspects to this area.

Please note that all minors must be accompanied by an adult

Donations of gloves, bags and other materials you would normally use for this type of event will be welcomed.

This event is open to all, and registration is not required.

Help clean up our hiking trails in the Upstate with this fun and educational workday.

Special thanks to the SC Department of Natural Resources and the Spartanburg Area Conservancy.

Note: If there is severe weather issues on the day of the event, we will cancel the event and reschedule the event. Please do not show up if there is severe weather. We will monitor the weather the day of the event and will make an announcement on the this cache page, should the event be cancelled.
