Geocache Description:

We’ve been enjoying the great caches along several deactivated railroads in the Kootenays and we wanted to give something back.  So, we’ve continued the cache run Granitic Intrusions started on the Rossland to Warfield Railgrade trail.  This section of the Railgrade is popular with mountain bikers and hikers in the summer… and just a few cross country skiers and snowshoers in the winter.

This trail is not as well maintained in the winter as the Slocan Rail Trail but is still passable.  Be prepared for downed trees, hanging alder bushes, and variable snow surface.  In the summer, the trail is maintained by the Kootenay Columbia Trails Society.  You can expect a few peeks of the Rossland Range, Red Mountain, and Rossland, as well as Redstone Golf Course.

We’ve added parking coordinates for both ends of the trail – one being in Warfield near the community hall, and the other just off Gelesz Road in Rossland.
Please come prepared for the outdoors! Though this trail seems close to civilization, you are sort of “out there”.  It takes us about 1.5 – 2 hours to hike from Rossland to Warfield – quicker on skis, and even quicker on a bike.

Please resort to the hints if needed as tree cover and narrow valleys may impact GPSr accuracy.

Thanks to Kid Crazy for the inspiration to hide more winter friendly caches!

This all-season micro is just off trail.
