Easter Egg Event of 2013 Event Cache

This cache has been archived.

cdparker1: I am pretty sure that everybody that attended has also logged the event. If you have not, then go ahead, even if the event is archived.

Thank you for all that attended and all that helped with the planning, donations, and execution of the event. Extra hands make short work and we had some really good extra hands to help at this year's event. I also think that this was the best year in egg recovery as I truly think that only one single egg went AWOL. This should pretty much be a record as usually others meet their demise at the hands of the critters of the woods.

We shall see many of you throughout the upcoming year and hope to see many of you at any of our future events. Viva la Magpie!

Geocache Description:

Easter Egg Event of 2013

It is time again for some Spring fun!! Come join us and other cachers for an Easter Egg hunt at the Winifred Matthews Holt Preserve, New Scotland, NY. Find some eggs, find some caches, and find some friends (or make new ones) as you and/or your children look for eggs spread throughout the preserve.

Prizes for found eggs will include candy, toys, geo-items, and other items yet to be determined. Drinks and snacks will be made available. If you want to bring something to share, then please post it so others will know. If you would like to contribute items to be given away, then please contact me.

Bring your friends, bring your children, bring your pets and bring yourselves! It would also be wise to bring the bug repellant and some tweezers as some of us discovered ticks, not geocoins, on our clothing at last year’s event! YUCK!!

Last year’s event went pretty well and we had some really nice weather. Let us hope this year’s event follows suit!

This year we are heading back towards the Capital District to the Winifred Matthews Holt Preserve in New Scotland, a Mohawk-Hudson Land Conservancy location. We initially came here in our first year of caching to find the “Holt your Horses” cache but only scratched the surface in exploring the preserve. Mom and I came back this year with Julius, who is four and a half years old, and checked it out to see how it would do for hosting our annual event. Julius proved that it is a suitable location for kids as he hiked along with us for just under two miles, a distance that kids will not have to endure for this event…unless they choose to!

52 sets of eggs will be hidden, split in to eggs for children as well as adults. The coordinates are given out on a first-come first-served basis. When they run out, they run out.

Hope to see you there!!

”Winifred Matthews Holt Preserve is a 148-acre property on the western face of Copeland Hill in the Town of New Scotland. The preserve is visible from Route 32 and from neighboring hills. The preserve rises at the edge of the flat area known as Indian Fields. Dr. WIlliam Holt and Winifred Matthews Holt donated this hillside to the Mohawk Hudson Land Conservancy in 1994.”
