Geocache Description:

Welcome to wildniagara's debut!
A matchstick container with a logbook. Please bring your own pen
There is an 8Gig jump drive for the First to find!

Congrats to mijojelweslandon for the FTF on my very first cache :)

THERE IS NO NEED TO CLIMB THESE TREES AND IT IS AGAINST THE NIAGARA PARKS GEOCACHING GUIDELINES TO DO SO. These are Osage Orange Trees

This location is saturated with history. The property used to be owned by Capt Samuel McAfee who helped a rebel William Lyon Mackenzie (Toronto’s first mayor) to escape the Government of Upper Canada by providing his boat for passage to the US. Mackenzie then set up a base downstream on Navy Island called the Republic of Canada.

Please see the plaque in the parking area and Wiki search  William Lyon Mackenzie and the tree this cache is hidden in after visiting this cache. This cache is hidden in an Osage Orange tree. These trees are over 100 years old and have a green brain fruit. The tree is not native to the area and have an interesting historical use in the area. Look them up on wikipedia.
