Truesdale Vista Point / Elk River Access Hikshari’ Trailhead….A good place to take in the sights on the bay. There seems to always be something going on in the water around here. The US Coast Guard Lifeboat Station Humboldt Bay is visible from here, and this is a popular location for their boat ops and training. Fishing boats can be seen cruising by, and this is the spot where the Madaket makes her turn to begin the trip back to the foot of C Street. The pier just to the north of here is part of the Eureka Fuel Terminal which is operated by Chevron USA. On average, every nine days, a barge loaded with a couple million gallons of fuel enters the bay with the assistance of tug boats and delivers its goods at this pier. Two types of fuel are delivered to Humboldt County: expensive and very expensive.... Truesdale Vista Point is a good place to view the wildlife on the bay. All sorts of birds live on these waters. Seals, sea lions, and otters can be spotted at times. To your south is the Elk River. The Hikshari trail will lead you 1.5 miles alongside the river with great scenery. This section of the trail ends at the Park and Ride off Herrick Ave. Future plans call for extending the trail north along the waterfront to Del Norte St., but for now, that area remains a transient rookery.
