Geocache Description:

This is a park and go. Stay outside the barbed wire fence and away from buildings, it is private property. Park alongside the road.

CREATED WITH 4-H GPS SPIN CLUB ASSISTANCE:
In the Fall of 2011 the McLean County Farm Bureau (visit link) asked the 4-H GPS SPIN Club to help promote Agricultural Historic sites around McLean County. With the successful experience the 4-H GPS club had with creating the “4-H - Looking for Lincoln in Bloomington/Normal” (GC2MN0W), the club was up for the exciting history learning challenge. This cache was placed with permission obtained by property owner through MCFM. Be sure to thank the club for their assistance and enjoy the hunt.

HISTORICAL/AGRICULTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:
The Funk family farm traces its heritage back to Isaac Funk, who settled in McLean County in 1824 and became a very successful farmer. One of his descendants, E.D. Funk, started a seed corn company in 1901 and was instrumental in the development of hybrid corn for commercial sale.

KEYS FACT:
Hybrid corn greatly increased the amount of corn farmers could grow each year and is still used by farmers today.
