Geocache Description:

Garden Park is one of many nice little parks in East Vancouver. The cache is hidden in a unused park feature. The park is moderately used by the public so while there is the potential for muggles, there are also plenty of opportunities to recover and re-hide the cache. Be patient and stealthy.

The cache is 1 block away from Nanaimo St and 1st Ave near a bus stop. Commercial Drive is just 4 blocks away so make sure you go get a coffee and biscotti while you are in the area.

The cache itself is in a reasonably large (10 x 4 x 2 inch plastic lock box) covered in black tape so bring trinkets to trade. Please carefully re-hide the cache in the same location.

During the summer months Britannia Micro Footie (little kids playing soccer, very cute to watch) runs from the end of April to the end of June. The park is very busy on Saturdays during this time.

A bit of history of the park from the Vancouver Parks Board website:

This park space was purchased from P.W. Charleson in 1912 for the sum of $43,050 but was not named until the spring of 1914 when the Grandview Ratepayers Association received Park Board approval to apply the moniker Garden. The name drives from one of the park’s bounding streets which was in turn named for James F. Garden, Vancouver Mayor from 1898-1900.

Later in 1914 the park was cleared by relief labour to ready it for market gardens. Its use remained thus until the end of World War I when it was returned for recreational purposes.
