Vi sareste mai immaginati che la costruzione di un gigantesco autosilo potesse essere di stimolo alla cultura? A Como succede anche questo. Il 14 gennaio 2011 è stato inaugurato il nuovissimo parcheggio dell'ospedale Valduce, proprio in centro alla città, in prossimità di quello che una volta era il cinema Plinio e ovviamente di fronte all'ospedale cittadino. Il parcheggio è sicuramente utile vista la scarsità cronica di posti nel capoluogo lariano, ma qualcuno avrà di certo storto il naso pensando che quella torre è stata realizzata sopra ai resti delle antiche terme romane comasche.
Le terme di Novum Comum si trovano fuori dalle mura romane, in una posizione all'epoca strategica, in un'area, cioè, priva di altri edifici e vicina al corso del torrente Valduce, da cui era possibile attingere acqua. Gli scavi hanno permesso di ricostruire la storia di questo edificio: i materiali, ceramiche e frammenti di intonaci, parlano a favore di una datazione al I sec.d.C.
Nel III sec.d.C. il complesso fu abbandonato, anche in seguito ad alcune inondazioni del Valduce. La sua ultima fase di vita fu nel V sec.d.C., quando divenne una necropoli, formata da una decina di tombe.
Il pian terreno dell'edificio-parcheggio è stato interamente dedicato alle terme, sono stati allestiti percorsi guidati che permettono ai visitatori o anche ai semplici passanti di ammirare i resti romani e in apposito spazio espositivo sono stati a disposizioni pannelli esplicativi.

The thermal baths of Novum Comum are outside the Roman walls, in a strategic position at that time, in an area, that is, without other buildings and near to the course of the stream Valduce, from which it was possible to draw water. The excavations have allowed us to reconstruct the history of this building: material, pottery and fragments of plaster, argue for a dating to the first century AD
In the third sec.d.C. the complex was abandoned, even after some Valduce floodings. The last phase of his life was in the fifth century AD, when it became a necropolis, consisting of a dozen graves.
The ground floor of the building-parking was entirely dedicated to the spa, there were set up guided tours that allow visitors or passers-by to admire the Roman ruins and in a special exhibition space there were provisions panels.
