Buckhorn State Park is located on Castle Rock Flowage, a 13, 955 acre flowage of the Wisconsin River. Castle Rock Lake is the fourth largest inland lake in Wisconsin. Buckhorn is known for it's unique hike-in shoreline campsites, beaches, and water activities. This cache is located a short walk down Turtle Trail to a small fishing pond. The pond is stocked for kids by the Friends of Buckhorn State Park. Fishing rods and basic tackle are available at the park office for free checkout if your youngsters want to wet a line. As you make your trek back to the cache area and around the pond, you will observe several bat houses which have been placed to encourage bats to locate here. Bats feed on our plentiful supply of mosquitoes in the summer months. The cache is now a bison tube since the other one appears to have floated away. Please rehide as found.
There is plenty of parking at the trailhead however it is not plowed in the winter. A current Wisconsin State Park sticker is required to park a vehicle in any part of the park at any time of year.
WDNR Geocache Notification Form 2500-118 has been submitted to and approved by Heather Wolf, Property Manager at Buckhorn State Park for this cache. Please note that any geocache placed on Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources managed lands requires permission by means of this notification form. If you intend to place a cache on WDNR managed lands, please print out a paper copy of the notification form, fill in all required information, then submit it to the respective land manager.
