Geocache Description:

Mount St Leonard's is an iconic mountain to the east of Melbourne.

At over 1000 m and with a pointy top, it is visible from most northern and eastern parts of Melbourne......   It has a light on overnight that allows aeroplanes to find their way back to Tullamarine airport........  It is a significant radio transmission sight with close to 200 services operating from here..........   On top of the main tower is a cabin, this is used as a fire lookout.  At the time of writing it is where I sit over summer.....   This site has been used for fire detection since 1949. Before this, the next hill to the east had a tree tower, this was destroyed in a fuel reduction burn, the current public lookout is the second fire tower used in this site, previously a wooden tower was also here. all that is left is a couple rings drilled into the rock that supported it. If you head about 50 m to the north you will see a fire bunker then to the right is a green cylinder which is a rain gauge. 10m to the east is 1 linkage. The public lookout was also previously used for fire detection and has since been pruned. The details of which are on a plaque at the base of the stairs. This provides a basis for most of the information required for this cache. The final waypoint is near the water tanks on the way back to the cars. Approximately 2.5km's of walking required..................... The cache can be found at: south ad bc jkm..... east nhp af qgq............. a = number of flights of stairs on the small tower?....... n = number of features on the platform that point out landmarks? The answer here is 2 as one sign is missing and doubt it will be replaced. ............. At the bottom of the stairs is a plaque, that contains the answers to the following questions;........... bcde = feet above sea level?....... fghi = year mentioned at top of plaque?........... J = g - 3......... kl = height of original tower?........... m = l + 2......... p = j - f....... q = l + f ........Good luck Have fun
