This is the first cache I’ve placed, so I wanted it to be something that I would like: A hike through the woods to a cache that is easy to find.
The cache is located in a somewhat secluded part of North Park. The area is bound by the Rachel Carson Trail, a park maintenance road, and the Green Dot trail. It is a steep-sided valley, and until recently, no blazed trails. The BMX course now extends down into the valley next to the stream and there is at least one mountain bike trail along the eastern side. Be aware of bikers when near the course.
The steep terrain will make for a good hike, and you may get your feet wet. If approaching from the south or southwest, be aware of a cliff near the Rachel Carson Trail. If the drop down from the Rachel Carson Trail looks too daunting, follow the park maintenance road until a mountain bike trail joins it, then work your way westward on or near the bike path. A bushwacking approach from the Green Dot trail may offer a more gradual ascent, but short climb up a steep slope is still needed.
