A cache placed in homage to simpler, happier times. When you could go out and leave your door unlocked (no-one had anything worth nicking, you see). They say nostalgia is like a grammar lesson. You find the present tense and the past perfect.
Each of the pictures in the above collage (click the collage to see a better view) has been chosen to evoke a particular year, so firstly you need to work out which year that was. Once you have done so, you simply need to rank each picture in chronological order from 1 (for the oldest) to 23 (for the most recent). Then, substitute the letter that goes with each picture for the numerical rank you've given it in the equation below, and there you go.
We have deliberately not used the same year twice in any two pictures. In general, when a picture might look at first glance like it might cover a range of years, choose the year that begins this range (when a TV programme was first shown, for example).
