The Frenchay Campus of the Bristol Polytechnic opened in 1975 as a relatively small site and has been growing ever since.
It gained university status in 1992 and became the University of the West of England (UWE).
Perhaps the most visible expansion of the site was the building of the Student Village and the Centre for Sport adjacent to the A4174 Ring Road.
In 2008 the UWE bought a number of extra buildings and expanded the site to the west. One of those buildings has become the Exhibition and Conference Centre.
Best location for parking is outside Filton Cemetery at N 51 29.926 W 02 32.628.
