Unky Skunky Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Big Zed: This is the first geocache I published, and sadly it is gone. I checked on it this evening and was told by a neighbour that beavers have been going after trees nearby. The cache was originally placed beside the small bridge on Kirby Road, but after the rising water in the creek disloged it I hid a replacement container at the base of where three small trees were growing together on the side of the road. Thanks to those who found Unky Skunky.

Geocache Description:

Good morning, fellow treasure seekrs! Welcome to my geocache. After spending nearly a year finding other people's caches I think it's time I started placing some of my own. This is my first hide and I'll try not to make it too difficult. So who is Unky Skunky anyway?

Ray was my uncle and it was he who first told me about geocaching. He heard about it on the radio and asked me if I was a player in this high tech game of hide and seek. I was curious so I looked it up on the internet and that's when I found geocaching.com. Two or three years later one of my customers said she was a geocacher and told me more about it. Then in March 2012 a friend got me involved in the sport—I found my first geocache and right away I was hooked. So I bought a handheld GPS and have been caching ever since.

We lost Ray on the 28th of February in 2012. I think back to when my brother and I were younger and the many times he took us out hiking. He's been gone for a year now and I'm placing this cache in his memory. I think Ray would have enjoyed geocaching because he liked spending time outdoors. He had his own farm and he was also involved in building some hiking trails in the Valley. Let's see if you can find Unky Skunky.

There is a log book and a pencil inside the container but very little room for trading items. I've also included a shiny loonie for the FTF prize. Happy geocaching!

UPDATE: Congratulations to Jesters05 on the FTF. Also, after reading today's log entries I'm changing the hint, and offering this warning: the ground is slippery when wet.

UPDATE New hiding spot but close to the old coordinates.
