GSAK for Dummies
(And Geocachers!)
Geocaching Swiss Army Knife is a software program that many geocachers cannot live without. It is a database manager built specifically for working with all information related to our hobby. The purpose of this event will be to share information on the many uses of this software.
The presentation will provide basic knowledge and will start with the assumption that you have never used the product. This will include topics on where to get the software, how to install and populate your database.
From there we will discuss organizing, filtering, sorting and printing data. Also, how to upload and download to your GPSr from GSAK will be included.
We will cover the basic concepts of more complex tools available including macros (both using macros written by others and the ability to write them yourself). One of my favorite tools is the polygon tool and we will demonstrate its usage.
Finally we will leave plenty of time for Q & A and user participation.
Depending on the level of interest we might schedule a future event to delve deeper into the use of this software.
Lastly, understand that we are not experts on the subject and you may leave with more questions than answers. We in no way endorse this product over other choices available.
If you use the GSAK software come prepared to help us explain and answer questions and if you have a favorite macro we would like to hear about it.
A wise teacher once told me we only learn what we are ready to learn. So if we go over your head just enjoy the company of your fellow cachers!
Please feel free to bring your laptop computers, wifi is available through the library. It needs to be noted that GSAK is a windows based program. Bring your gps and downloading cord as well.
If you have any questions you'd like to present ahead of time please send them to us and we will forward to fljhawk.
