Geocache Description:

Welcome to Broadmyst – A village purely of the imagination, although geographically similar to the estate of Broadlands, Bridgend.

Although many interesting, unusual and downright daft locations exist in Broadmyst, do not expect to find them in the real world otherwise disappointment is sure to follow. Broadlands is a standard modern housing estate, started in the late 1990s and still under development.
Broadmyst can be classed as an Alternate Reality, where mystery lurks behind every door and strange occurrences are part of everyday life.

We first came up with the idea during the snowy weather of January 2013, where any thought of finding interesting caches was out of the question and we wished there were more to find nearby, with puzzle elements to while away the dark evenings – that is Broadmyst's raision d'etre.

There are a few rules which need to be understood before embarking on a journey to Broadmyst...

1. The story, puzzles and fake locations are much better than the physical locations.
2. None of the puzzles are particularly difficult – this is meant to be fun.
3. None of the cache hides are particular difficult – this is meant to be fun.
4. This is the only cache that has any relation to the real world. All that follows is 'in story.'
5. There is no requirement to solve the puzzles and find the caches in order.
6. None of the caches are at the published co-ordinates.
7. Each cache contains a digit required for the bonus cache's co-ordinates.
8. This won't be the only Broadmyst Story...

Don't forget to visit the Broadmyst Tourist Office website here to find a village map, more information (much of it useless) and some background flavour...

Are we all sitting comfortably? Then we can begin... In early February, Mary and Thomas John, a pair of amateur investigators into the paranormal read several strange newspaper reports of disappearances in the small South Wales village of Broadmyst. Their interest piqued, they resolved to visit Broadmyst that very weekend, happily discussing their plans with friends and family – a real life adventure that had yet to be resolved.

Renowned bloggers, their friends were eagerly anticipating news of the first uncovered evidence, the John's take on the mystery or even a solution. Unfortunately, the evening of their first day at Broadmyst, no updates were given.

As that first day became a week and still no word was heard from the couple, several friends tried to contact them. Mobiles went straight to answerphone, e-mails unreturned. Understandably worried by now, some of their friends decided to become investigators themselves and attempt to discover what exactly had happened to the couple.

Finding yourselves, good friends of Mary and Thomas, near the entrance to the village, your quest starts here...

Lying in the bushes just off the road, a glint of shiny black plastic catches your eye. Parting the branches carefully, you find a laptop – unmistakably belonging to Mary. Booting it up and investigating any recent documents, you find only one that has been altered since the couple left their home that fateful day...

To Investigate... 1 – Store 2 – Church 3 – Owl Sanctuary 4 – Canal 5 – Observatory 6 – Sweet Shop 7 – Manor 8 – Cave 9 – Blacksmith 10 – Castle Ruin

The game is on!
