Geocache Description:

Santa Fe All The Way

Audley is a historic station on the AT&SF Railroad that dates from the 1880’s. Prior to the Santa Fe taking over in the early 1880's this railroad route was originally built by the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad. This station served a track maintenance section gang and was one of a couple of stations along the AT&SF route that loaded high grade silica on rail cars for transport and use in foundries and smelters across the west. Nothing much remains of this station now. The new BNSF railroad that that came about from a merger of the Santa Fe and the Burlington Northern Railroads in 1995 still runs freight trains past Audley up to 100 times a day and it is still a station named Audley but it consists only of a set of crossovers and signals allowing trains to switch from one main track to the other as the dispatcher in Fort Worth, Texas sees fit.

Enjoy watching a train go by & wave to the conductor & engineer. You might even get them to blow the whistle for you! Do not cross the fence & stay away from the tracks. While you are there keep an eye out for prairie dogs, you are in the middle of one of the largest colonies in the west. You might even see a coyote or two out hunting dinner. Look at the photos in the gallery for this cache.

I have included in the initial swag a couple of minor items of railroad interest for the First to Find to have their choice of. Any spoilers included in logs or photos will be deleted. Please log DNFs & pertinent notes. These are very important to me in tracking the condition of the cache & maintaining it in a good condition for searchers.
